DaisyWorld was invented by James Lovelock and Andrew Watson, to explain how the Gaia Hypothesis didn't require a sentient Earth, only feedback loops. Life itself could maintain the planet fit for life – within limits.
Daisies absorb or reflect sunlight, based on their color, or 'albedo.'
Barren ground also has albedo. For some range of solar luminosity (how bright the sun is),
the daisies can maintain the world temperature to their liking.
DaisyBall extends this to multiple colors and sites on a globe.
