Most author sites are WordPress these days.

Mandalar for Mobile

Mandalar - Pattern Blocks is now on mobile! Mandalar is a port of Pattern Blocks to Android and iOS, using Adobe AIR - same source, all platforms. Cross-operable with the web version. Designs saved to the Art Gallery can be edited with either browser-based Pattern Blocks, or Mandalar for mobile.

Pattern Blocks are used in early math and just for fun. Great for drawing mandalas, tilings, and tesselations. Originally written as a toy for my daughter in 1998, this is my most popular app by a landslide.

May 2013: Added group edits, including copy-move and scale.

January 2013: Added 8 palettes, to quickly change color scheme. Also new Share | Other, to share with your choice of sharing app - Pinterest, etc.

September 2012: Added native sharing to email, Facebook, and Twitter.

Carbon Cycle Lab

The Carbon Cycle shows how fossil carbon is released into the air, then migrates into various carbon sinks - atmosphere, terrestrial plants, soil, ocean surface, and deep ocean. Explores changes in fossil fuel usage, net deforestation, and melting tundra.

The scientific model is simple equilibration. I didn't develop the math on this one, only the interactive and graphics portrayal.

Demographics Lab

Demographics explores population growth pyramids, much like my earlier Human Demographics simulator, where you can change birth and death rate schedules. In this rendition, the user can set vital rates to match those of a different country. (E.g., how would India's population develop under US birthrates.) Countries: USA, China, Egypt, India, Italy, Mexico, and Nigeria.

Fractal Music Composer

Fractal Music Composer is a powerful music editor. Students build their own musical phrases out of notes from their choice of multiple keys and musical scales. Compositions are built from notes and phrases playing on assorted instruments. Fractal editing operations create self-similar sequences across different time and sound scales. Students can save MIDI output of their creations, which can play their music on almost any computer.

Click to listen to a sample composition made by applying fractal operations on two phrases from Pachelbel's Canon.
